Mommy Brain...

During a conversation with my friend’s grandmother the other day, she mentioned how she is in awe of mothers these days. She went on to say that she doesn’t know how they do it – work, raise children, manage the house, volunteer etc. Then she looked directly at me and said, “I just don’t know how you do it”. I just looked at her, smiled and said it’s was all about a work/life balance.

What I really wanted to tell her is that I feeling like I’m loosing my mind half the time! Work…work is fine. It’s actually one aspect of my life that’s organized and under control. What makes it better is that my employer has been very accommodating and open to my new schedule which is great. So, now that I have the work part of the work/life balance under control I need to work on the life part.

It’s been six and a half months since Camden was born and I still feel like I have no idea what I’m doing half the time. There’s not one aspect of my personal life that I’m not behind on and to make it worse I keep forgetting to do the simplest things - Flushing the toilet for example. Hello?! Where is my head? How can I possibly forget to flush the toilet? This is driving my husband crazy by the way!

Anyway, while researching convertible cars seats, I stumbled upon a thread on a mom’s board that discussed the term Mommy Brain. After reading about the ditzy things other mom’s are doing I actually started to feel better. It’s nice to know I’m not alone. Most - if not all new moms are feeling the exact same way I’m feeling. Not only do they feel like they are loosing their minds, they are also worry about the same things I am. So, after reading what they had to say and after reading a few other articles I came to a realization that no new parent has a clue about what they are doing - some are just better at faking it than others!

One more thing, the write up about Mommy Brain also mentioned that it usually lasts until your child is between 14-18 months!! Maybe we should install an auto flush like I have at work! HA HA!!

DOn't worry, you're not alone. We all feel that way. I like to call it Momnesia :) I actually have a person who comes and cleans my house every two weeks...it really helps. I want to spend my free time with my family not cleaning. My Momnesia has not gone away and has only gotten worse since Lauren's birth. But I'm learning not to sweat the small stuff...as long as my kids and hubbie are happy I figure I can get to the rest of the stuff later.
